Shaft constructions of all sizes can be challenging. Shaft sinking in different strata can include the need for blasting in hard rock and/or the fixing of pre-cast concrete linings in softer grounds.
Depending on ground conditions, construction can begin with the placement of piles and a reinforced concrete collar. Rockbolting, shotcreting and consolidation grouting can also be utilised in the construction process as a means of additional stabilisation during the construction process.
The size and depth of the shaft will determine the method of excavation and removal of material. Typically civil construction shafts require various methods of hoisting such as mobile cranes, kibble and winders.
